Geography of el Oriente of Cuba

The Oriente of Cuba is the most mountainous region in Cuba for the height of its peaks like for the abrupt and extensive of its orographical massifs.

This region in form of triangle whose vertexes are the preto of New Big, the tip of Maisí and the end Cruz, this limited one: for the north the Old channel of Bahama; for the east the strait of Maisí or Step of the Winds that it separates it of the island The Spaniard (Haiti and Dominican Republic); for the south the sea of Antilles; and for the west for sea the gulf of Guacanayabo that is part of the sea of Antilles and for earth from the outlet of the river Jobabo whose bed toward the north forms the limit with the county of Camagüey for whose north portion serves it as limits with this county the bed of the New Big river until its outlet.

In the Oriente of Cuba we can distinguish diverse subregiones: Sierra Maestra, Sagua-Baracoa Massif, Toa river, Gulf of Guacanayabo, Cauto River, Salto Fino, among other.
